Detailed Itinerary:    

The Athens Classic Marathon follows the route run by the Athenian foot soldier, Pheidippides in 490 BC, to announce to the people of Athens, with his last words “Niki” or victory, that the enormous Persian army had been defeated in the battle of Marathon by the citizen-soldiers of Athens. The Marathon is said to be one of the toughest, following a 24 mile course that begins by the sea near the ancient historic battleground in the town of Marathon, climbing the base of Mount Pendeli and ending on the plains of Attika, now the center of Athens, at the old marble Panathenaic Stadium, built for the first modern Olympics in 1896.

Day 01:

Arrive in Athens and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to discover the city on your own. We will be happy to make suggestions.

Day 02:

After breakfast begin your half day Athens sightseeing tour which includes the Acropolis and its museum, the Panathenaic Stadium where the Marathon ends, the Royal Palace, Syntagma etc. Return to the hotel and the rest of the day, walk around the ancient neighborhood of Plaka at the foot of the Acropolis, or visit on of the many superb museums in town.

Day 03:

Free day to prepare for your big feat tomorrow. We can help you with a choice of restaurants for a pasta dinner!

Day 04:

ATHENS CLASSIC MARATHON! - After an early breakfast transfer to the town of Marathon to the start point of the race. After the race your taxi will meet you near the Panathenaic Stadium and transfer you to your hotel. Relax and enjoy the feeling of having participated in one of the most enduring and historical running events. In the evening celebrate at a traditional taverna with dinner and Greek song and dance.

Day 05:

Today you have a choice of a relaxing full day cruise to the beautiful Saronic islands of Poros, Hydra and Aegina or an excursion to ancient Delphi. Both tours include lunch. Return to Athens in the evening and transfer to your hotel

Day 06:

Transfer to the airport for your journey back home. Congratulations!
